All Elite Wrestling (AEW) is introducing a new title.
Named after the US broadcaster of AEW Dynamite, the TNT Championship will be determined in an eight-man tournament beginning Thursday, April 9 (New Zealand time). AEW will crown the first TNT Champion at Double or Nothing on May 24.
“The first-ever titleholder will be determined by an unforgettable tournament that fans will not want to miss, and that our wrestlers will be desperate to win,” AEW President and CEO Tony Khan said.
“It’s only fitting that the champion and the title belt will carry the logo of the globally-respected TNT brand, and that they’ll represent not only AEW but also the great quality programming, massive reach, and storied history in the wrestling business that are all associated with TNT.”
As well as airing Dynamite, TNT is the former broadcaster of WCW Monday Nitro.
Cody vs. Shawn Spears, and Darby Allin vs. Sammy Guevara have already been announced for the TNT Championship tournament. The full tournament bracket will be revealed on Dynamite today.
AEW Dynamite airs from 1pm (NZDT) Thursdays on Fite.
