2021 may have been the year of the ox but in the NZPWI People’s Choice Awards it was the year of the dragon.
“American Dragon” Bryan Danielson dominated the Best Male Wrestler category with 44 per cent of the total vote, and Danielson’s one-hour draw against “Hangman” Adam Page for the AEW World Championship in December was voted Best Match. His AEW debut against Kenny Omega from Dynamite: Grand Slam took second place.
In New Zealand, Niwa achieved similar success, being voted Best Male Wrestler for the second year running. His win over Marcus Kool in a brutal Dog Collar Match at SPW’s Southern Rumble was voted Best Match.
Dr Britt Baker DMD was the Best Female Wrestler internationally, according to NZPWI readers, while Frankie Quinn narrowly edged out Britenay for the same honour at home—Quinn’s second year voted Best Female Wrestler.
