Kota Ibushi is the new IWGP Heavyweight and Intercontinental Champion – at least for one night.
Ibushi dethroned Tetsuya Naito to win double-gold for the first time inside Tokyo Dome at Wrestle Kingdom 15.
The Golden Star will now defend both titles against Jay White on January 5.
Switchblade crashed Ibushi’s celebration after Naito handed Ibushi the Heavyweight and Intercontinental belts.
“Congratulations even though you, me, everybody, we all know you’re not the real champion,” White said.
“Enjoy this moment, enjoy it because it only lasts for one night. Tomorrow, Ibushi, I’m taking those. I’m taking everything from you.”
Ibushi’s Kamigoye knee was his weapon of choice against Naito. The Los Ingobernables de Japon leader endured two Kamigoyes but couldn’t survive a third over the course of the 30-minute headliner inside Tokyo Dome.
Ibushi becomes just the third man to hold both the IWGP Heavyweight and Intercontinental titles simultaneously, behind Naito and EVIL.
