A surprise appearance from Jake Hager ended an eventful debut episode of AEW Dynamite.
The former Jack Swagger aligned himself with AEW World Champion Chris Jericho who, along with Ortiz and Santana, had just won a six-man tag team match against Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks.
Hager joined Jericho in beating down Cody – Jericho’s challenger at AEW Full Gear – and the rest of The Elite.
The Elite were disadvantaged in the night’s main event thanks to Jon Moxley, who made his first AEW appearance since a staph infection ruled him out of his scheduled match against Kenny Omega at All Out.
Moxley made a beeline Omega and smashed “The Cleaner” through a glass table to take him out of the match.
Outnumbered, The Young Bucks soon fell victim to Jericho’s Judas Effect. Then Jericho tried to continue the beat down on Matt and Nick Jackson.
Cody hurtled to the ring to even the odds, as did Dustin Rhodes, but Hager tipped the balance in favour of Jericho’s side and devastated The Elite with his Gutwrench Powerbomb as the Dynamite broadcast came to an end.
