Ben Mana has become the new NZWPW Champion after defeating “Dream Catcher” Phil Woodgate in front of a raucous home-town crowd in the main event of Wairoa Warzone.
The Modern Maori Warrior’s win has prompted an outpouring of support from those in the New Zealand wrestling scene, including IPW Champion James Shaw.
“Met this man in 2011 and had an epic singles match with him in Bulls,” Shaw wrote on Facebook. “From there we kept an epic feud going on, some of the matches being some of my personal favourites. Now, four years on, Ben Mana is your new NZWPW Champion and I am your IPW Champion. An epic night on Saturday!”
Mana is now a three-time NZWPW Champion, tying him with “Rufguts” Roddy Gunn for second-equal most reigns with the title, behind seven-time champ D-Hoya.
Despite his enthusiasm about Wairoa Warzone, Shaw was unsuccessful in his match on Saturday. The IPW Champion teamed up with Johnny Idol and Taylor Adams to represent NZWPW Chairman Martin Stirling in a losing effort against Rodeo Drive.
Also at Wairoa Warzone, Graham Hughes won a triple threat against Jakob Cross and Travis Banks when he pinned Banks following a Tomorrow Driver.
