Paul Sayers took the fight to “Rufguts” Roddy Gunn during Friday’s NZWPW event, and looked to be moments from winning the NZWPW Championship before Dream Catcher interfered on behalf of his Nobodies stablemate.
Sayers and Rufguts fought with the same intensity they brought to their unscheduled brawl at the end of NZWPW Beat Down last week and—as was the case at Beat Down—Sayers slowly managed to gain the edge over Rufguts.
Sayers eventually took Rufguts to the mat where he trapped the NZWPW Champion in a scissored armbar, dubbed the Supertramp Stretch, and dialled up the pressure until it looked as though Rufguts would be forced to tap out.
Dream Catcher, who had supposedly been banned from ringside, rushed from the locker-room area and slid into the ring to strike Sayers with the NZWPW title belt, causing Sayers to let go of the submission hold.
Dream Catcher’s actions led to Rufguts being disqualified, but neither Nobody seemed to care they had technically lost the match, so long as they left with the NZWPW Championship.
Just who should leave with the title almost became a point of contention though, as Dream Catcher—number one contender to the NZWPW Championship after his win at Over the Top—paused for slightly too long before handing the belt over to Rufguts, causing some tension between the two.
