New NZWPW and SCW Champion “Rufguts” Roddy Gunn begrudgingly defended his titles against Hotaru at Maniacs United’s Thrills ‘n’ Chills last Saturday.
Rufguts held neither title when his match with Hotaru was originally announced, but offered to put the belts on the line anyway if the South African could overcome Rufguts’ manager, “Dream Catcher” Phil Woodgate.
While Rufguts had obviously hoped Woodgate would soften Hotaru up before what would remain a non-title main event, Hotaru came through and pulled out the victory over Dream Catcher, leaving Rufguts forced to defend both of his titles.
After a little time to recover, Hotaru took to the ring for his first title opportunity and took the fight to Rufguts – so much so that the NZWPW and SCW Champion decided he would have to bend the rules to hold onto his belts.
“Dream Catcher” Phil Woodgate, who accompanied Rufguts to ringside, climbed onto the ring apron to distract both Hotaru and the Maniacs United referee while Rufguts picked up his SCW Championship.
Rufguts slammed the belt against the back of Hotaru’s head, knocking him to the mat, before tossing his title out of the ring and covering Hotaru as Dream Catcher stepped down from the apron and allowed the referee to count the three.
