“Rufguts” Roddy Gunn narrowly held onto the SCW Championship at Slam City IV thanks to some dubious officiating.
Sammy V challenged Rufguts for the title in last Saturday’s main event, with Rufguts’ stablemate “Dream Catcher” Phil Woodgate drawing on his background as a former NZWPW referee to serve as the special guest time-keeper for the match.
The bout began with both Rufguts and Sammy V hitting each other hard, but the “Human Forklift” began to get an advantage as the match progressed.
It looked as though Sammy V was on the verge of a victory over Rufguts – one that would finally see him capture the SCW title – before Dream Catcher hastily rang the bell and declared the match a time-limit draw, well short of the allotted 60 minutes by most attendees’ estimates.
Rufguts remains the SCW Champion as a result of the draw, but Sammy V must still be considered the number one contender to the title and due a rematch after taking the champ to the limit.
In the night’s other title bout, KPW Women’s Champion Scarlett successfully defended her title against Peyote.
Osiris tried his best to skew the match in Peyote’s favour from ringside, tripping Scarlett and distracting the referee as best he could.
However, Scarlett fought back against adversity and ultimately pinned Peyote with a fisherman’s suplex.
