Ben Mana, “Rufguts” Roddy Gunn and Shane Sinclair showed why they are the champions of their respective promotions at KPW Halloween Howl 7, turning back the challenge from three hungry contenders in the night’s main event.
Originally scheduled to be opponents, NZWPW Champion Ben Mana, SCW Champion “Rufguts” Roddy Gunn and new KPW Champion Shane Sinclair were attacked by Johnny Idol, Kade Morgan and Taylor Adams on their way to the ring.
KPW management then passed word to the commentary desk that the main event had been altered, pitting Adams, Idol and Morgan against the KPW, NZWPW and SCW Champions.
Thing were somewhat tense on the title-holding team, with all three men having prepared to be opponents – not to mention the Right 2 Challenge held by Rufguts giving him a shot at Mana’s title any time he chooses.
Nevertheless, the champions were forced to work together to withstand the onslaught from the number one contenders to their titles, which included three back-to-back dives out of the ring from their young, hungry opponents.
Ben Mana seemed to have the toughest time working alongside Rufguts and Sinclair. At one stage in the bout, Mana even threatened to drop Rufguts with a Maori Spike, but missed and instead put Kade Morgan on the mat.
Mana appeared remorseful despite being Morgan’s opponent but got his head back in the game when Johnny Idol entered the ring.
Mana grabbed Idol for a Mana Slam at the same time Sinclair hit Morgan with a Techniplex and Rufguts spiked Adams to the mat with a Rufdriver.
Just as they had been unified in executing their signature manoeuvres, all three champions covered their opponents at the same time, and the referee counted a triple pin to declare Mana, Rufguts and Sinclair the victors of Halloween Howl 7’s main event.
“The Shooter” Shane Sinclair began his road to the main event match earlier in the evening, when he took on Graham Hughes – who had been chosen to take the absent Mr Samoa’s place – in a bout for the vacant KPW Championship.
Sinclair did not come to the ring alone either. The former champ was flanked by KPW CEO Rip Morgan, who brought his hand-picked title contender to the ring seconds after Hughes had been defeated by T-Rex.
Morgan set Sinclair on Hughes in a display of his power, making sure the KPW fans knew he was the man pulling the strings.
Morgan would get even more hands-on in his attempt to secure Sinclair another KPW title reign, when he entered the ring, while Sinclair had the referee distracted, and clocked Hughes with a right hand.
Sinclair then picked up the pieces, slamming Hughes to the mat with a Techniplex to become the first two-time KPW Champion.
